Want to up the fun when it comes to literacy? This digital apple beginning sounds activity is engaging and full of meaningful skill practice!
Apple Theme Beginning Sounds Activity
Learning about beginning sounds is one of the earliest phonemic awareness skills young readers will learn. Students will practice distinguishing the initial sound in words, which leads to success with CVC words, word families, rhyming words, and more.
This digital apple beginning sounds learning activity will benefit students as they are learning their letters and sounds. By using technology to complete this fun apple activity, students will be highly engaged in the learning.
As students complete this beginning sounds apple-themed activity, they will look at the picture on the apple digital task card. Then, they will look at the 4 letters on the side of the screen and determine which letter makes the beginning sound of the picture. Finally, they will drag and drop the letter of the alphabet into the box.
The students will get to practice the beginning sounds with all 26 letters of the alphabet. This activity can be differentiated and used with students from preschool to 1st grade.

The Seesaw specific link has two activity parts. Each activity part has 15 slides for a total of 30 slides.
Working on Beginning Sounds
This apple-themed beginning sound match activity is a great way to incorporate technology and encourage independence in your students’ learning. Your students can complete this activity:
- In small groups
- As a digital literacy center activity
- At home
- As a whole group bell ringer or exit ticket
As students sound out each letter sound on every slide, they are getting a lot of practice with beginning sounds and phonemic awareness. They will also use their problem-solving skills as they determine which sound matches the picture card.
You can differentiate this activity by only assigning a certain number of slides to students. To make it easier, assign fewer slides. To make it harder, assign all 30! This can easily be done with the Seesaw version as it is already split up into 2 parts.
Before you know it, your students will be dragging and dropping beginning sounds like champs on all 30 slides!
I hope your class enjoys this apple-themed beginning sounds activity for Google Slides and Seesaw. Whether at school or at home, this activity will help build those foundational phonemic awareness skills in a fun way!
