Numbers Crayon Activity

Ever since they were very young, my kids have loved feed the animal activities. Like that time we did this feed the bear alphabet activity and this super cute feed the turkey counting activity. It seems my kids enjoy learning any skill when they get to pretend to feed something. Haha.

Seriously though, there is something very motivational about being able to feed the animal or object something. It seems so simple, but it really makes learning these skills so much more fun.

I thought it would be awesome if I could make printable versions that would make it super easy for all of my readers to do this kind of activity with the kids they teach.

Thankfully, I came across some super cute clipart sets that work perfectly for this.

This particular theme is perfect for back to school season. Kids are already so excited about school supplies and art materials, so this capitalizes on that excitement.

For this feed me activity, students will feed crayons to the crayon box. My kids thought this was so funny.

There are number cards that show “Feed me the number” and then a ten-frame or counting picture is shown underneath. So there is one set with ten frames for numbers 0-10 and one set with counting pictures for 0-10.

All of the crayon cards that you feed to the crayon box have a numeral written on them.

Feed Me Numbers

This numbers crayon activity can be played independently or in pairs. It would be perfect for math centers, morning tubs or even at home with your kids.

I have made it in color AND black and white so that you can use it no matter what your printing situation is like.

Supplies Needed:

  • The Feed Me Numbers Printable (button to download at the bottom of this post)
  • A cube shaped tissue box
  • Scissors

You will probably want to laminate the number cards, crayon cards and crayon box for durability, but it can be used without.

Kids love this fun, hands-on numbers activity.

One thing you can do to cut down on space is to just use one or two different tissue boxes and just change out the object or animal that is being fed.

This is where laminating helps. I just roll up some scotch tape and use it to adhere the face to the tissue box. When the face is laminated it is fairly easy to peel off the tissue box so it can be reused.

I have found that after a while the tissue box begins to deteriorate from peeling the tape off over and over. I am thinking about using sticky back velcro to attach them to the box and make it easier to swap them out.

Once you have the tissue box set up and the cards cut out and laminated, it is ready to be used. Your students are sure to have a blast feeding the crayon box while learning numbers!

Stay tuned for more versions that will help you teach lots of different skills.
