Turkey Roll, Race & Trace the Letter Alphabet Game Sheets for Thanksgiving
This Turkey Roll, Race & Trace the Letter Alphabet Game turns letter practice into a fun, low-prep dice game that’s perfect for November literacy centers. Kids roll, move around a game board, identify beginning sounds, and race to trace every letter hiding in a turkey’s feathers.
It’s a hands-on alphabet game that works solo or with a partner and requires no prep from you!
What’s Inside the Turkey Roll, Race & Trace Game
This set includes four different Roll, Race & Trace game boards, so you can rotate through the whole alphabet across your Thanksgiving literacy centers. Each page features:
- A roll-and-move picture path along the top of the page
- A turkey with a variety of letters on it’s feathers (uppercase and lowercase)
- Simple, print-and-play instructions built right into the page

- The printable game boards (link below)
- A die
- A pencil for tracing
- A second colored pencil or crayon for partner play
- A small game piece or token for each player (buttons, mini erasers, or coins work great)
How to Play
- Roll: Students roll a dice and move around the game board at the top of the page.
- Identify: When they land on a picture, they figure out what it is and the letter it starts with.
- Trace: They find one instance of that letter on the turkey’s feathers and trace it.
- Repeat: Play continues until every letter on the sheet has been traced.
To play with a partner, give each player a different game piece and a different color to trace with. When you’re both finished, count up your traced letters and see who traced the most letters!
Skills Kids Will Practice
- Letter recognition (uppercase and lowercase)
- Beginning sounds and letter-sound association
- Letter formation and handwriting practice
- Turn-taking and following multi-step directions
- Friendly and fun competition
Why Kids Love a Roll and Trace Game
Turning a tracing worksheet into a dice game changes everything. Kids stay engaged longer because there’s an element of chance and a little friendly competition. The tracing feels like part of the game instead of “just” a worksheet. It’s an easy way to get repeated letter practice without anyone losing interest halfway through.
Tips for Using This in the Classroom or at Home
- Partner play: Perfect for a literacy center where two kids can play together and check each other’s letters.
- Small groups: Rotate through all four boards over the course of a week to cover the full alphabet.
- Independent practice: Works just as well solo. Kids can roll, identify, and trace on their own and at their pace.
- Reuse it: Slip the pages into write-and-wipe pockets or laminate them so kids can play again and again with dry-erase markers.
