Digital North Pole Blends Sort Activity

During the winter months, students are working hard to master phonics skills as they begin sounding out words. Beginning consonant blends are a key literacy skill this time of year.

This digital North Pole blends activity is a fun way for students to practice listening for blends in words and identifying words that begin with particular blends.

This North Pole-themed word sort activity is developmentally appropriate for kindergarten, first, and even second-grade students. This activity helps students build on their beginning sounds isolation skills.

As students sort the beginning blends on each page, they will use their critical thinking and letter-sound skills to determine the pictures that have each beginning blend.

Mastering Beginning Blennds

This digital North Pole blends sort activity is a fun addition to your winter lesson plans. The North Pole theme will excite your students and bring a ton of fun to the classroom, whether in person or virtual!

In this activity, students will work with 15 different beginning consonant blends. They will identify the 3 pictures on each slide that begin with the blend shown on the screen. They will drag and drop to sort the pictures accordingly into the boxes. There are 5 pictures on each slide, so students will use their critical thinking skills to determine which 2 do not begin with the blend.

This activity gives students several meaningful opportunities to work with beginning blends and word sorting. As students determine the words on each slide, they will also be expanding their vocabulary and becoming more comfortable with bigger words. There are a mix of short and long vowel words.
