Christmas pattern block mats are so much fun and perfect for Christmas math centers!

Christmas Pattern Block Mats

We are loving these Christmas pattern block mats! Just like with the Thanksgiving version, my kids were asking to use them before I even finished printing them. They still ask to use them again and again.

I actually made two versions. One with just the pattern block design and one with the spinner. After using both, I asked my kids which one they preferred and both insisted that the spinner version was the best. They loved the added aspect of spinning the spinner and covering a spot on the mat.

Your kids will love this Christmas pattern block mats. They are perfect for preschool, kindergarten, first grade and second grade.

I have also made them in such a way that it is very easy for you to print in black and white without sacrificing the design of the activity.

PLUS, these pattern block mats are print and play! No cutting or prep work involved!

Differentiating the Pattern Block Mats

I also decided to add a version that is plain and doesn’t show each individual shape within the design. This version is for students who need more of a challenge. These were perfect for my second grader. He enjoyed the added challenge.

Christmas pattern blocks make a fun Christmas math activity.

The version that shows all of the shapes within each design is perfect for kids in preschool, kindergarten or first grade. Or students who are confused by the more advanced version.

Students can also work independently or in pairs. The added support of a partner may be helpful for students who are struggling to do the pattern block activity independently.

The kids will love this fun pattern block activity!

Setting Up the Christmas Pattern Block Mats

Supplies Needed:

  • Christmas Pattern Block Mats – button to download is at the bottom of this post
  • Pattern Blocks – we like to use the magnetic version on top of a small cookie sheet or personal magnetic white board
  • Transparent spinners – or use a paperclip and spin it around a dull pencil tip or attach to a brad.

You may want to laminate these, but I am not sure how well the magnetic pattern blocks will work over lamination. I did try them in write and wipe pockets and they worked, but didn’t stick super well.

  1. Print the mats on cardstock for added durability.
  2. Gather pattern blocks and spinners.

That’s all! Like I said, very little prep for you. 🙂

Using this Pattern Block Activity

Students will spin the spinner and then cover the corresponding shape on the mat.

Students using the more advanced version will spin the spinner and place the corresponding shape on the mat. They will need to decide where they think it might belong and if they need spin again for a different shape.

As they add more pattern blocks, they may need to move shapes around to complete the design.

I hope your kids enjoy these Christmas pattern block mats as much as my kids did!
