This Christmas tree math activity is a fun way for kids to practice number recognition and subitizing. This would be an excellent preschool math center activity for Christmas!

Christmas math activity for preschool. A fun Christmas tree game for young children!

My Christmas tree letter matching activity is such a hit that I knew I needed to make a math version too. My kids love both versions and will happily play this roll and cover game over and over again.

You can do this Christmas math activity at home with your children or use it in a classroom. It could be a small group activity for younger preschoolers or an independent math center for pre-k or kindergarten students.

  • Christmas tree roll and cover printable (at bottom of post)

There is basically no set up needed for this activity. Just print the roll and cover page and grab your dice and erasers.

It is a great way for me to introduce subitizing and number recognition to my 3 year old. She can’t do it independently, but I we do it together and she really enjoys it.

You can also use it with older children too. I included a blank version so you can write numbers in. So for my son I wrote numbers 7-12 on the blank spots and gave him two dice. Then he rolled both dice, added the numbers together and covered a corresponding number on the tree.

We just love these mini erasers we got from the $1 Spot at Target. We’ve been using them for all kinds of activities!

The printable includes one page with dice numbers on it and another that is blank, so that you can write in bigger numbers, letters, sight words and more.

I hope your kids enjoy this Christmas tree math activity as much as mine did!
