How to Use the Alphabet Mats
Use these alphabet dot letter mats to teach letter formation in a way that is hands-on and engaging. Students begin by tracing around the dot letters by placing mini erasers or another manipulative in each circle on the letters.
Then they will trace the letters using the letter formation font. Next, they will trace the letters below that. Then they will write the letter on the handwriting lines. Finally, they will find the pictures that begin with that letter by circling the pictures or covering them with mini erasers.
As you can tell, these alphabet mats are jam-packed with letter learning opportunities! Students will learn so many important literacy skills.
Beyond using the mats with mini erasers or snap cubes, students can also use play dough balls or play dough snakes to trace around the dot letters.
Students can work on the alphabet mats with a partner or independently.
Cross off sections of the mat that you would like students to skip. For example, if they are not ready to write the letters on the handwriting lines, students can skip that part or they can just use that area to explore letter writing without worrying that the letters are written perfectly on the lines.
