Having Fun with Kinetic Sand and Dinosaurs and Plastic Eggs
My 5-year-old was super excited when he saw the kinetic sand, dinosaurs and Easter eggs. He couldn’t wait to dig in and start playing.
He immediately got to work putting the dinosaurs in the sand and in the eggs. He put the dinosaurs in the eggs. Then he made a nest with the kinetic sand and laid the eggs on it.
Eventually he discovered that he could pack the kinetic sand in both sides of an egg and then close it and shake it around. Then when he opened the egg back up he had a perfectly formed kinetic sand egg.
He couldn’t really get a dinosaur in the kinetic sand egg this way, so he started making egg-shaped balls of kinetic sand with his hands and stuffing the dinosaurs in that way.
He also realized he could make little molds out of a half of an egg. So he made lots of those and eventually they became a fence to keep the bad dinosaurs out.
He had a tiny little dragon toy that had to be included and eventually he had a whole scene with a volcano, a dragon and various dinosaurs.
While engaging with this activity, he did so much to develop his fine motor skills. Opening and closing eggs, packing kinetic sand with his hands, making molds are all beneficial for fine motor development. He also had to use critical thinking skills to solve problems he ran into.
Afterward, my 2.5 year old played with the tray. She thoroughly enjoyed burying the dinosaurs and putting sand in the eggs.
This is definitely an activity we will do again! It couldn’t be easier for me to set up and my kids loved it!
