Pumpkin CVC Clip Cards
When it comes to learning, everything seems more fun with a theme! These pumpkin-themed CVC matching clip cards will be a great way for your students to work on key literacy skills and fine motor skills!
Add these clip cards to your literacy centers or word work station in the fall or have your students complete them independently.
Your students will use their knowledge of letters and sounds as well as word family patterns to practice sounding out CVC words and matching the correct word with the picture on the pumpkin clip card.

All you need to do is print the clip cards, laminate them, and cut them out. Add a clothespin or clip and your students are ready to go!
Differentiating With CVC Clip Cards
It is so important to be able to differentiate instruction for your students in order to meet their needs. This may mean using this activity in different groupings or by adjusting the difficulty of the skill.
You can use this activity during a whole group discussion, literacy centers, word work stations, as an independent activity, or during fine-motor centers. This would also be a great way to informally assess students on their CVC skills without the stress of traditional tests.
To make this activity easier, you may give students less clip cards to complete. If they need to work on a particular vowel sound, you can give them cards with those words and pictures.
To make it more challenging, assign all of the CVC cards to students. You can even have them record the word on a recording sheet or write a sentence using that word.
This activity can be used with students ages kindergarten through second grade, depending on level.
Setting Up The Pumpkin CVC Matching Clip Cards
Supplies Needed:

- Pumpkin CVC Matching Clip Cards
- Clothespins or clips
- Write and wipe pockets (optional)
Instructions:
- Print the cards. There are 4 cards per page.
- Laminate the cards or slide into write and wipe pockets.
- Cut the cards apart.
- Slide the cards and clothespins or clips into a baggie or tray for easy storage and grab and go access.
Using the Pumpkin CVC Cards
To use the CVC matching cards, students will first look at the picture on the pumpkin. They will sound out the 3 short vowel words on the side to determine which word matches the picture.
Then, they will use their fine motor skills and hand muscles to clip the word that matches with their clothespin or clip.
To take this a step further, have students read all of the words aloud as they sound them out and then say the word being represented in the picture out loud and then in a sentence.
If students have enough clips, they can complete all of the cards and then unclip them. If they only have one clip, they can complete one at a time, unclip, and move onto the next card.
