Using the Roll and Write Name Activity

There are 3 options on the dice and they are repeated twice each.

  1. Write the name with a pencil.
  2. Write the name with a crayon
  3. Write the name with a marker.

Students will roll the dice and land on one of the above options.

They will use the writing utensil they landed on to write their name in a box on the page.

This continues until all of the boxes are filled.

Reusable Version of the Name Activity

I have also included another version of the dice, if you would like to make the sheets reusable.

In that version, there are 3 colors repeated twice on each dice. You will slip the sheets into write and wipe pockets. Then the students will use a dry-erase marker in the color they landed on to write their name in a box on the page.

Use for Sight Words or Spelling Words Too!

If your students have moved beyond learning to write their name, you can also use this for word work too.

Students will simply use their sight word or spelling words list to complete the activity.

Students will look at word #1 on the list. Then they will roll the dice and write that word using the writing utensil they landed on. This continues until they have moved through every word on the list, up to 10 words total.

As you can see, it is easy to differentiate the activity for your students and also extend its life beyond simply learning to write names.

I hope your kids have lots of fun using this roll and write your name activity!
