Blend Word Read, Write and Color Worksheets
Use these free printable Blend Word Worksheets to practice blending and segmenting sounds in words. Students will read, write, and color the words in literacy centers or Science of Reading lessons.
What are Consonant Blends?
Blends in words are clusters of two or three sounds that combine to make one new sound. A great example is the word PLAY. The P and L join together to make the new PL sound. Students learning to read can’t always identify the individual letters, so blending and segmenting words allows them to break the word apart and hear the sounds.
Examples of blends are pl, fl, sl, gl, bl, cl, sc, sk, sm, sn, sp, st, br, cr, dr, fr, gr, pr, and tr.

There are three worksheets to choose from. Each page features a variety of blends. Two pages use beginning blend words and one page has final blend words.
Differentiated Reading Practice
This is a great way to reinforce skills that students have already learned. Add them to centers, use them during small groups, or send them home for extra practice.
Students just beginning to blend sounds and read more complex words could do this activity in small groups with help. Students reading words independently can use these reading pages to practice this skill independently or with a partner during literacy centers.
Have kids rainbow-write the words in each writing section to get more writing practice. This means they write over the same word numerous times in different colors.
These blend word worksheets are packed with learning opportunities. Students will learn many essential literacy skills while working on their fine motor muscles.
