Your kids will love making fun pictures with pom poms this Christmas. And while they are doing so, they will be strengthening those important fine motor muscles.
I also added in some counting practice, so your kids will be developing fine motor skills while they practice counting too. Win-win!
Setting Up the Fine Motor Pom Pom Mats

- 1″ Pom Poms in a variety of colors
- Fine motor tools such as these gator grabbers, or these squeezy tweezers or just use a small chip clip like we did.
- Write and wipe pockets
Tip: I ended up getting a bunch of packs at Michael’s craft store since we can never have enough pom poms.
Using the Christmas Fine Motor Mats
Students will use a fine motor tool or their finger tips to place the pom poms on the mat – making sure to match the colors to the correct space on the mat.
This will continue until all of the spots on the mat have been covered with a matching pom pom.
Then students will count how many pom poms there are of each color on the mat and write them in the spaces at the bottom.
