Christmas Tic Tac Toe Game with Ornaments
If you are looking for a simple Christmas game for a party or just a center activity, this Christmas Tic Tac Toe game is perfect! It’s a quick, easy and fun!
As I was walking around Dollar Tree one day, I spotted a cupcake container. I quickly realized that it only held 9 cupcakes instead of a dozen like most do. That’s when it occurred to me that it would be perfect for a game of Tic-Tac-Toe.
My son is just learning how to play the game and I thought using the container and ornaments would make it a bit more tactile and exciting than the simple pencil and paper version.
Supplies Needed:
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
- Cupcake container with 9 spaces – (this one might be an option too, but I haven’t seen it in person.)
- Mini shatterproof bulb ornaments in at least two different colors – make sure you have enough for each person – I got mine at Dollar Tree
There’s no set up involved. Just pull out the tray and the ornaments and you are good to go!
Playing Christmas Tic Tac Toe
I let my son choose which color ornament he would like to use and then I took the other color. We played Tic Tac Toe just like you would on paper – taking turns placing an ornament in a space.
This is an excellent way for young kids to develop critical thinking skills and begin to use strategy. My son is still working on the strategy part of this activity. He understands what to do, but is still learning to think ahead and plan for the other player’s moves.
As we are playing, I make sure to explain out loud why I am placing ornaments in a certain place on the tray. As I do this, I can see the wheels turning in his head and as he is playing I can see that he is beginning to think about strategy.
This is a fun game to leave out on a table at a Christmas party! Kids of all ages and even adults will enjoy playing it!
