You will click the Seesaw specific link in the download file. When you arrive at the activity, you will need to click the “Save Activity” button. Then you will assign the activity to your students.
Working on Sound Isolation
Working on letter sounds and isolating these sounds is one of the essential phonemic awareness skills that help students build a strong reading foundation. This acorn letter sounds matching activity gives students multiple ways to learn and play. They will not only work on isolating sounds, but they will be working on segmenting words into sounds. This will help them determine the beginning, middle, and ending sounds in each picture. Finally, students will use letter recognition to match the lowercase acorn letters to the correct sound in each picture.

To meet students’ needs, you can assign only the particular sound mats that they need to work on and leave out the rest. If a student needs to work on a particular sound isolation skill, you can assign that particular style of mat.
When students have begun to master the concept of each sound, you can assign all of the acorn letter sounds matching mats. They will put all of their skills into action and work to match the sounds on all of the beginning, middle, and ending sounds mats.
For an added challenge, you can mix up the mats and have students choose one to work on, giving them an element of surprise, which is fun for them! To take it a step further, students can sound out each word and write it on a recording sheet. Have them underline the sound of focus.
