Ending Digraphs Word Building

This fun phonics activity is an interactive way for your students to read and spell words with ending digraphs.

Students will build words like “fish,” “duck” and “beach.”

The slides show a picture of the word and the text of the word without the ending digraph included.

Students will interact with the slides by dragging the virtual digraph letter tiles over to the box and finishing off the word illustrated on the slides.

This gives them lots of practice with reading and spelling words that have ending digraphs.

Setting Up the Digraphs Activity in Google Slides

Students can use Google Slides™ to do this activity.

The download includes a detailed guide with instructions and pictures on how to use the file with you students, but it is quite simple to do.

If you are a instructor or teacher, you will want to copy the Google slides assignment to your Google Drive and save it as a master copy.

Make sure that you click the dropdown next to the attachment. Pick the “Make a copy for each student” option.

Using the Ending Digraphs Activity

Students will look at the picture on the slide and determine the name of the object pictured.

Then they they will look for the missing ending digraph on the right side of the slide. Once they have found the digraph needed to complete the word, they will drag the digraph tile over and finish building the word. Then they will read the word out loud.

The Google Slides file has the following ending digraphs: -SH, -TH, -CH, -CK.

This continues through all of the slides.

The last several slides of the activity include an answer key so that students or parents can easily check their work. You can always delete the slides, if you don’t want them included.
