Gingerbread House Counting Game
This gingerbread house counting game is a great way to practice counting and one to one correspondence this winter! It’s a fun Christmas math game!
Gingerbread men and gingerbread houses are kind of a big deal in our house lately. My son can’t wait to make a gingerbread house this year!
Since the interest is definitely there, I did what I love to do and used that interest to create a learning activity. This one helps kids learn to count and practice one to one correspondence. You can use one game die or a pair of dice to differentiate the game for varying abilities.
Supplies Needed:

- Gingerbread House Counting Game printables (download them at the bottom of this post)
- Foam dice
- Gingerbread candy foam beads (optional)
- Print the house and candies onto card stock for durability.
- Cut out the candy pieces.
*If you want to do this with a classroom of students, you may want to invest in foam candy pieces or foam beads instead. It will save you from all of the cutting. It honestly wasn’t too bad and if you use this as a math center or small group activity you would probably only need two or three sheets of the candies.
Gingerbread House Counting Game
The game is very simple. Children roll the game die and then add that many pieces of candy to their gingerbread house.
My son really enjoyed it and it was a great independent activity for him to do. I love that it is easy to just pull out and give to him when I need to occupy him for a bit.
I even started to introduce my toddler to counting by simply placing pieces on the house and counting as we laid each one down. We only counted to three each time and then I started again. She loved decorating the house!
If you want to turn this into game where players compete against each other, then have them play as described above and the first person to run out of candies to add to their house wins. It is sure to be a lot of fun!
