CVC Word Work

Your students are going to have a new pep in their step as they complete this exciting rainbow CVC word building activity. They will have 18 different opportunities to practice.

Each slide has kid-friendly pictures, making this an activity that they can complete independently with success. This also allows them to work with each short vowel sound multiple times.

Using this digital phonics activity is simple. Students will look at the picture in the cloud. Once they determine what the word is, they’ll use the rainbow letter pieces to build the word.

After dragging and dropping the letters in the correct order, they’ll decode the CVC word. This is great practice with spelling and reading CVC words.

The directions are the same on each slide, so students will simply repeat until the activity is complete. Students love consistency, which is exactly what this activity brings!

Differentiation is Easy

Another great thing about this rainbow word building activity is it is super easy to differentiate to meet your students’ needs. If you have students who would be overwhelmed by 18 slides, you can delete some and work your way up to completing them all.

If they need to work on a particular short vowel sound, reorder the slides and delete slides so they can focus on those short vowel words only.

On the other hand, you may have students who are soaring and ready to take on more of a challenge. Have the complete all of the slides, mixing up the order each time. You can even challenge them to write the CVC word on a whiteboard, in a sentence, or identify a rhyming word.

Knowing the needs of your students will help you create your small groups and then you can differentiate this activity and assign small groups certain slides and extension activities.

This activity is ideal for students in kindergarten and first grade. It can be used as a second grade intervention or reteach activity as well.
