Setting Up the Vowel Teams Word Building Activity in Google Slides
Students may use Google Slides™ to do this activity.
The download file includes a detailed guide with instructions and pictures on how to use this activity with your students, but it is quite simple to do.
If you are a instructor or teacher, you will want to copy the Google Slides assignment to your Google Drive and save it as a master copy.
Make sure that you click the dropdown next to the attachment. Pick the “Make a copy for each student” option.

You will click the Seesaw specific link in the download file. When you arrive at the activity, you will need to click the “Save Activity” button. Then you will assign the activity to your students.
Mastering Vowel Teams
This digital vowel teams word building activity has 19 slides for students to practice with. This makes differentiating the activity to meet the needs of students easy to do. Simply assign less slides to make the activity easier or more slides to make it more challenging.
Another great way to differentiate is by re-ordering or deleting slides to only assign the slides with the vowel teams your students need to focus on most. You can split your students into leveled small groups and assign vowel team slides that way.
This activity is perfect for small groups and literacy centers as students can work at their level without feeling overwhelmed.
This vowel team activity will help students understand the different sounds as they decode and practice reading the words. They’ll also get a deeper understanding of spelling patterns so they can be successful when they write the words later on.

To play the game, students will look at the picture on the slide. They’ll look at the letters given in the word. Finally, they’ll look at the 4 vowel team options and choose the vowel team that completes the word by dragging and dropping it into the box representing the missing vowel team.
This activity will also encourage critical thinking skills as students determine what the picture represents and then complete the word to match.
